# 5.5 Authority Lifecycle

Authority is not static.

The fact that authority once existed does not mean it remains valid at admission or execution time.

The current canonical Authority Object status domain is:

```
UNMINTED
MINTED
INVALID
EXPIRED
REVOKED
```

#### UNMINTED

No valid Authority Object has been created.

The proposed action has no admissible authority basis.

```
UNMINTED
⇒
No valid authority for execution
```

#### MINTED

The Authority Object has been validly instantiated and may be evaluated by the Admission Kernel.

`MINTED` does not automatically mean every proposed action is admissible.

The kernel must still evaluate:

* scope,
* signatures,
* validity window,
* revocation,
* policy binding,
* consequence requirements,
* intent,
* and other applicable predicates.

#### INVALID

The Authority Object has lost structural or governance validity.

Possible causes may include:

* malformed state,
* failed legitimacy conditions,
* invalid evidence,
* or protocol-defined degradation.

#### EXPIRED

The validity window has ended.

Expired authority cannot support a new valid admission.

#### REVOKED

Authority has been withdrawn.

A revoked Authority Object cannot continue serving as a legitimacy source merely because it had previously been valid.

#### MINTED vs ACTIVE

Some security and deployment specifications use the operational predicate or state:

```
ACTIVE
```

This should not be confused with a competing Authority Object lifecycle vocabulary.

For GitBook v2.0:

```
MINTED
```

is the canonical object lifecycle status representing valid instantiation, while operational evaluation may ask whether that Authority Object is currently:

```
Active(AO, t)
```

under all relevant conditions.

Conceptually:

```
Active(AO, t)
requires:
AO is validly minted
∧ current time is valid
∧ authority is not revoked
∧ required conditions remain satisfied
```

Thus:

```
MINTED object
does not imply
ACTIVE for every time and action.
```

#### Lifecycle Is Non-Compensatory

If authority is:

```
UNMINTED
INVALID
EXPIRED
REVOKED
```

high model confidence or operational utility cannot restore it.

A new legitimate authority state is required.
